Montresor Camp, Leesburg, VA

Montresor Camp was a boys and girls summer camp operated out of the 280 acre Montresor Estate which was purchased by Neal and Nancy Stanford in 1953.  The Camp operated from 1954 to 1978.

The above picture was the camp barn in 1957.   The below picture is Neal and Nancy Stanford with their new Volkswagen Bug.   We are posting other old pictures as well as the way the property looks in 2007, 2008 and 2009.  Things have changed.

The main house at Montresor was built beginning in 1763.  In 1909 Montresor was purchased by steel baron James Laughlin.  His wife, Bessie Laughlin who also owned the property that became Crystal Lake Camps in Pennsylvania, died  in the early 1950’s and the Stanford’s bought the property in 1953.  The Camp opened in 1954 with boys only.

If you are a former camper or counselor you can contact Binky Bloch at and hopefully we can get this site going with alot of good Camp information and pictures.  Several other people such as Roland Chew and archery instructor Errett Callahan are also going to contribute.

Be sure to click on the “BLOG” entry in the menu at the top of the page.  This is where we’ll add information as we hear from people who attended Montresor Camp.
